Please Note: You must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at Boise State and be currently enrolled in order to challenge a course.

Step 1

Take a Placement Exam or show transcript of successfully completed language course.  For French, German, and Spanish Placement Exams you can pay the $10.00 fee, take the exam, and receive your results immediately in one location at Testing Services located in the Academic and Career Services Building, ACS 115, 426-2762. For placement in Arabic, contact Isam Ali; for ASL, contact Rand Adams; for Basque, contact Nere Lete; for Chinese, contact Sharon Wei; and for Japanese, contact Tetsuya Ehara (see link for Fall 2011 Challenge Exam Dates below).

Step 2

Take placement results to the challenge administrator (see contact information below).

  1. Determine the number of courses you will challenge.
  2. Schedule test date.

Step 3

Complete the Credit for Prior Learning form in the MLL Office, L-140B.  The office staff will record accounting codes and the challenge fee amount.  The cost is $50 per class.

Step 4

Take the Credit for Prior Learning form to the Payment and Disbursement Center, A211 to pay challenge fees.   Take fee receipt and Credit for Prior Learning form to the challenge exam administrator.  All paperwork must be finalized and turned in to the administrator least 2 days prior to test date. The exam will not be given without all required forms.

Step 5

Bring your BSU ID with you to the scheduled time for your exam.

Step 6

After the exam is graded, pick up exam results from the MLL office, L-140B.  The MLL office will turn in all challenge grades to the Registrar by the semester deadline.
